Why so many animals, Raquel?
Why so many animals, Raquel?
Because they give me confidence that I can keep things alive.
Because they don’t say no to what I feed them.
Because they trust me.
Because they’re adorable.
Because they do not waste what they are given.
Because they aren’t hard to wake up or put to bed.
They do not have homework.
They do not tell me they hate me.
They do not embarrass me.
They do not need me to pay for another sport, another instrument, another birthday party.
They don’t leave behind wrappers, and dirty clothes, and half-empty bowls, and dirty q-tips, and congealed toothpaste.
What are kids good for then?
They are not. That is not the purpose of children. Pets are for me. Children are for themselves. This is good. This is exhausting. This is impossible. This will kill me.
When will it end?
Never or when I die.
So why not end it?
My animals need me.
Author's note: At the time of writing this, I have 13 hens and 1 rooster, 3 ducks and 3 drakes (and 10 duck eggs due to hatch soon), four cats, two dogs, two rabbits, one guinea pig, one turtle, and two parakeets. Also, I am not usually so negative about my obligations towards my human family, I'm just having a hard week. Thank you for reading my vent, friend.
This makes complete sense.
